Who we are:
serrao design/architecture is a full service architectural practice, at our core we are a small highly personalized design oriented practice, working and interacting closely with our clients. serrao design/architecture was formed in 1998 as a partnership between Jay Paul Serrao, AIA and Melissa Szpik Serrao. Jay and Melissa, both graduates of the California College of the Arts (formerly CCAC), have collaborated since 1995 and believe in an architecture embodying both art and craft.
What we do:
We are committed to creating exceptional work. Fundamentally we work to create an architecture inspired and built from our understanding of the goals, desires and resources of our clients. Our work has no singular definition but rather is multi-faceted in its scope and influence. We value the integrity of space over form, a creative and sensitive use of materials, the play of light in space and on form and architecture that creates a meaningful and engaging relationship between the inside and outside. We work to bring the client's program and site together to create a site-specific and client-specific work of architecture.
Why we do it:
We believe that our built environment is important and meaningful to the individual and our collective culture. We believe, as architects, we can make places that enrich life and transcend the pragmatic. We value architecture that is rich in it's complexity yet restrained and refined in it's resolution. We take a rigorous approach to the act of making with the goal of creating a sophisticated yet very livable architecture. We believe that every project has the potential for great architecture to be created when it is approached with sensitivity, thoughtfulness and care. |
